Everyone who can move their feet and chew gum at the same time is encouraged to participate – we’ll show you how that day. Come ready to Riverdance with the whole community in the middle of Jefferson Street – just before the parade. Get there early, the Riverdance Challenge starts at 10:30am!

BE A LORD OF THE DANCE!

Learn to Riverdance and get into bikini shape – oh yeah – and help us challenge a Guinness record!

We will be hosting a few warm-up lessons for special people (aka YOU) who are interested in helping us teach Riverdance to the masses on March 13th. Don't worry, we'll teach you everything you need to know before then! The day of we'll position you down the parade route to get people involved, teach them a few simple moves to break the world record!

Just come to The Water Heater (813 5th Street SW, Roanoke, VA, between Elm and Mountain Ave) on Monday, March 1st anytime between 5-7pm to learn some moves and more about the event and how you can help us annihilate the current record holder. We'll have a few more dance sessions available in the next couple of weeks that we'll post on here and also tell you about on Monday! See you then!

Bonniest Knees Contest

Get this: men in kilts, blindfolded female judges feeling their knees! All for a trophy, bragging rights, a photo opportunity and fun. We're searching for the Bonniest Knees in the Valley. If you've got what it takes to win this contest be certain to sign up at the merchandise sales table at the festival - there will be a limited number of contestants so don't be shy. If you'd like to shave those bony (sorry that's bonny) knees, we'd really recommend it!

Watch video of the Vikings of the Valley & Sons of Norway at the 2008 McDonald's St. Pat's Parade and EventZone Celtic Festival

Vikings of the Valley and Sons of Norway (who claim to be close friends with the Celtics - at least here in the Roanoke Valley) will be marching in the McDonald's St. Pat's Parade and also setting up a special Children's activity area at the HomeTown Bank Celtic Festival. They'll be in Viking garb, set up their Viking Longhouse after it's cruise in the parade, they will bring in their 14' Viking ship. They will assist children in making their own Family Shield and a Family Runestone (rune comes from the Goth word meaning secret) using ancient Viking alphabet and it's all free.
