McDonald's St. Patrick's Day Parade

Parade Starts at 11:00am
New Parade Route Map

Come be a part of a growing Roanoke tradition and one of the Mid-Atlantic region's largest St. Patrick's Day Celebrations. This year's parade will continue to honor our local police, fire, veterans, and EMS, in other words, "those who protect and serve."

Companies, organizations, clubs, individuals, and families are all invited to be a part of the parade! Floats are ALWAYS encouraged. Be as festive of an "Irishman" as possible - you might just win a trophy!

Ronald will lead the parade!

Catch the St. Pat's spirit and join in the fun - enter you organization, business or group in the McDonald's St. Pat's Parade.

Be creative, make a float, get a theme - but above all get going. You could win the "big" trophy for these judged parade categories.

Pipe & Drum Bands appearing in the
McDonald's St. Patrick's Day Parade

(Here's a hint for maximum Pipe Band enjoyment - in addition to marching and
performing in the parade, each band will perform within the Hometown Bank Celtic Festival venue as they come to the end of the parade route – see map at the bottom of this page.)

City of Winchester Pipes and Drums

This musical organization is dedicated to the highest standards of bagpipe music performed on the great highland bagpipes of Scotland. Their most important goal is to provide pipe music for organizations and events. The band has made a tremendous impact in making the communities of the northern Shenandoah Valley more aware of and appreciative of pipe music. The band continues to grow boasting fourteen pipers and five drummers.

Virginia Highlands Pipes and Drums
Visit Website

The Virginia Highlands Pipes and Drums, based in the Roanoke Valley, were formed in 1983 with three pipers and one drummer. By 1986 the band had grown to eight pipers and four drummers. Those early band members’ occupations included a telephone engineer, a railroad pricing specialist, a paving contractor, two college professors, an electronics-steel engineer, a church minister of music, a college student, two high school students a television news anchor, and a retired physician. That retired Roanoke physician, Dr. John L. Harris, Jr., has been given a great deal of credit for organizing the band, and served as the band’s first pipe major. Myron C. White, Jr., also of Roanoke, was the band’s first drum sergeant, and Kenneth Swisher the first pipe sergeant. Throughout the year the Virginia Highlands Pipes and Drum band has gained a well earned reputation playing at festivals, weddings and graduations. Their sound is as traditional as the MacFarlane tartan they proudly wear.

Warpipe

Warpipe is a relatively new, exciting, extremely entertaining Celtic Pipe Band based in Roanoke, Virginia. Led by champion piper Burt Mitchell, the band is growing rapidly, attracting some of the best pipers and drummers in Southwest Virginia. Warpipe is redefining "Pipe Band", offering unique and powerful pipe music accompanied by highly innovative and energetic drumming.

St. Andrews Legion Pipe Band
Visit Website

The St. Andrews Legion Pipes and Drums is a performance band based in Richmond, VA. The group in appearance and demeanor is a military style pipe and drum unit with a full color guard party. The band represents and compliments the combination of three instrumental societies and organizations in the area that have inspired the St. Andrews Legion Pipes & Drums: the St. Andrews Society of Richmond, the American Legion, and the Royal Canadian Legion of Virginia. The majority of the band members are affiliated to one or more of these groups. Also, within our ranks, you will find Law Enforcement & Fire/EMS Officers, but the most important members of all are the young people with the gleam in their eyes and the desire to inherit a legacy that is hundreds of years old. If one looks at the uniform of a St. Andrews Legion member, to the trained eye, certain attributes of the Highland Regiments of Scotland can be seen. Red/white diced hose and the general shape of the unit's badge reflect the President's ancestral ties to the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. The red hackle honors the unit's honorary Pipe Major Bill Ford, and his service to the King & Country in the Royal Highland Regiment (the Black Watch) during World War II. Currently, all of the forty plus members are wearing the Batten of Argyll tartan, which they worked very hard for through fundraisers and their own personal expense.
